Daddy always smiled, and took me by the hand, saying "someday, you'll understand."
Today, I remember my father. Joseph Lorenz Fitzpatrick.
October 1949- December 19, 1986
Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.
Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven? Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.
Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees. Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please.
Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven.
-Eric Clapton Tears In Heaven
He said, I was in my early 40's
with alot of life before me
when a moment came that stopped me on a dime
I spent most of the next days, Lookin' at the x-Rays Talkin' 'bout the option and talkin' bout sweet time
I asked him when it sank in
that this might really be the real end
How's it hit you when you get that kinda news,
man whatcha do?
CHORUS ------- He said, I went skydivin', I went rocky mountain climbing. I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Foo Man Chu, and I love deeper and spoke sweeter and I gave forgiveness, I'd been denyin' and he said someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying -------
he said I was finally the husband
that most the time I wasn't
and I became a friend a friend would like to have
and all of the sudden going fishing wasn't such an imposition
and I went three times that year I lost my dad
well, I finally read the good book and I took a good hard look at what I'd do if I could do it all again
like tomorrow was a gift
and you got eternity to think about what to do with it what could you do with it?
what can I do with it?
and what would I do with it?
(Repeat Chorus)

Awww. That's sweet Bren. Good song choices, I can't recall if I've heard them before or not. I like the lyrics though.
Just a note that a couple of us from Bishop Kenrick (1967) were thinking about “Lorenz”, “Fitz”, “Joe” a few months ago. He had asked to be called each of them as our high school rpyears evolved.
Then we stumbled on your memorial page. . Sad to know that we lost him at an early age. He was a character with personality, and obviously memorable.
